Co-op experience and responsibilities

  • RF engineering Co-op, Northrop Grumman Xetron, Cincinnati, Ohio (4 quarters):
    • Entered parts into company database.
    • Wrote purchase requisitions.
    • Built, tested, and optimized an impedance matching antenna in the VHF bandwidth. Further developed the antenna in following co-op quarters by adding encapsulation and measuring antenna gain.
    • Performed engineering tests on digital receiver and transmitter boards.
    • Performed manufacturing tests on communications box.
    • Assisted test engineer in building a test box by soldering, documenting, and testing.
    • Helped to design a microwave conical antenna. Continued work during final co-op quarter by building, optimizing and integrating a coupler
    • Modified previous design of a small signal amplifier to increase bandwidth to 10kHz to 100MHz.
    • Built and tested microwave dipole antennas.
    • Granted DoD Top Secret clearance based upon an SSBI completed January 2006.
  • Electrical engineering co-op, Siemens VDO Automotive, Würzburg, Germany (2 quarters)
    • Worked on thermal safety for electrical motors in engine fans. Planned tests and analyzed results using DIAdem software.
    • Improved C code for test box by increasing the accuracy of an analog output.
    • Ran software validation tests.
    • Wrote small program to control a thermal chamber using LabView.
