co-op or other experience and responsibilities

  • RF/Analog Engineering Group, Northrop-Grumman/Xetron Corp (6 quarters):
    • Designed RF manifold/feed structure for an X-band (~5-10 GHz) communications device.
    • Chose a printed circuit board (PCB) substrate material and stack-up for X-band device that both minimized EMI issues and manufacturing costs.
    • Researched and selected highly specialized attenuators, test cables, connectors and frequency dividers for X-band test purposes.
    • Researched radio wave propagation in forested environments and co-authored an internal technical study on that topic.
    • Assisted in the design of a multi-band, single aperture antenna.
    • Designed and implemented tests for various antenna types, including multi-band, wide -band active, and narrow-band reflector-type dipoles. Tests included s-parameters, antenna pattern and noise analysis as well as matching network design and tuning.
    • Wrote MATLAB software script for automated data post-processing.
    • Tested and tuned high-power (>200W) VHF resonator filters.
    • Implemented military-specification environmental tests, troubleshot and tuned VHF radio transceivers.
    • Assisted in field-testing a long-range electro-optical system.
