The Graduate School 's website http://www.grad.uc.edu/gradAnn/Example.aspx?page=B provides an important new feature—Dissertation Defense Announcement. This allows you to publicize your defense by your name, dissertation title, committee chair, and time and location of the defense. You are solely responsible for accuracy of information and your defense information should be pre-approved by your program. Defense of dissertation is an important event as you near completion of your degree, important for you individually and collectively for graduate education at the University of Cincinnati .
Please contact grad.infor@uc.edu if you have questions about posting your defense announcement, and best wishes for successful completion of your work.
Visit the CS GSA resources page for more such information !!

The following details are for a lecture on the future of scalable computing for which a video feed (from OSC) will be broadcast in Room 302, Zimmer, on February 21st, 2008 from 2-3PM.
It should be of interest to most students and faculty interested in high performance computing.
Dear Friend,
The Ohio Supercomputer Center invites you to attend the upcoming lecture by Dr. Wen-mei Hwu, "The Future of Scalable Computing Environments."
Professor Hwu serves as the Walter J. Sanders III-Advanced Micro Devices Endowed Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, where he specializes in compilers and reconfigurable computing. Dr. Hwu's research interests include the areas of architecture, implementation, and software for high-performance computer systems.
His presentation is sponsored by the Ohio Computational Science Lecture Series, which is part of a joint effort by the Ohio Supercomputer Center and the Ohio Board of Regents to improve awareness and understanding of computer modeling and simulation.
Critical acclaim for Dr. Hwu's began with his doctorate studies in computer science at the University of California, Berkeley, which was successfully adopted into many microprocessor products, such as the Intel P6.
In 1997, Hwu earned recognition for his courses on multi-core and parallel processing architectures, receiving the Eta Kappa Nu Holmes MacDonald Outstanding Teaching Award. In 2006, Hwu received the most influential ISCA paper award, which chooses the paper that has had the greatest impact on the field in the intervening years.
Hwu received the award the paper titled "IMPACT: an architectural framework for multiple-instruction-issue processors."
More recently, Hwu joined a panel discussion at SC07 in Reno, Nev., on the range of newly emerging computing architectures and the challenges and opportunities that will come from these technologies.
A fellow of the IEEE and ACM, Hwu also serves as the director of OpenIMPACT, a project to deliver effective software and hardware performance solutions to the computing industry.
The ECE & CS Doctoral Qualifying Exam will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in 400 TUC, Room A. You can sign-up for the exam in 701 ERC. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Feb 29, 2008. Please contact Julie Muenchen if you have any questions.
