The CS GSA e-Newsletter is an effort, started by the CS GSA committee of 2007-08, to communicate with the graduate students of the department and to provide them with relevant news, information and regular updates on the activities of the CS GSA. The e-NewsLetters are sent to all graduate students of the Computer Science Department via email.

1.Free Pizza & Movie - CS GSA End of Exam Movie Night - 12/07/2007

Come and celebrate the end of exams with FREE food and movie !!

The CS GSA is screening the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End", just out on dvd, on the last day of the exam week for the graduate students, faculty and staff of the CS and ECE departments. Come for the pizza and stay for the movie !!

2. URC Summer Graduate Student Research Fellowships - Summer '08

Planning to work on your research during the summer? Apply for the prestigious URC Summer Graduate Student Research Fellowship. Need help with writing your proposal? The CS GSA will soon be providing a lot of resources for writing a successful proposal for the URC Fellowships including tips from students who have successfully received the URC fellowships in the past. Check CS GSA website for updates or contact Aravind Ranganathan, secretary, CS GSA for details.

This is the announcement for the University Research Council Summer Graduate Student Research Fellowships 2008.  The deadline to submit applications for the, University Research Council (URC), Summer Graduate Student Research Fellowships, is Monday, January 14th.     All applications must be submitted to the COE Graduate Office - 701 ERC  no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008.   Please submit one original and one photocopy.   Incomplete applications or late applications will not be considered.  Please read carefully the announcement below.

The application and approval process are new this year.  Each department can only submit a certain number of applications to the URC be considered.  All applications will be submitted to the Graduate Office and then they will be reviewed by the Department Graduate Directors.  The Graduate Directors will determine which applications will be submitted for consideration.  Those applications that are approved through the first phase will be submitted electronically to the University Research Council for the final consideration.  DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION ELECTRONICALLY YOURSELF.  Applications will only be accepted from the graduate programs

3. On-Campus job opportunity - Web developer position - Apply ASAP

The GSGA is looking to hire a graduate student who is not funded fully by their department/research and is proficient with web development to work on GSGA's website.

Please submit your resumes to Ezgi Akpinar (akpinae@email.uc.edu) by 12/07/2007, as they are looking for someone to start working by the Winter Quarter on the project. Make sure you mention that you received the information from the CS GSA.

4. Exam week coffee break - Reminder - 12/02/2007 to 12/06/2007

Working late preparing for your exams? Take a break to refresh yourselves.

Free Coffee and other hot beverages will be provided by the ECE GSA from 9pm - 2am in ERC 536 during the exam week - from Sunday, December 2 to Friday, December 7 (2AM).


The CS-GSA committee members meet twice every month to discuss relevant issues, progresses made, and to plan future activities. All students, faculty and staff of the department are more than welcome to attend these meetings to voice their opinions, suggestions and concerns. The next meeting of the CS-GSA is scheduled to be on Thursday, December 6, 2007, from 3:00-4:30PM at the 850B Group Study Room in the Engg Library.
