This seminar series targets multidisciplinary talks with Keynote or Plenary stature, and is a can’t-miss opportunity for faculty and students campus-wide.
Professional Achievements
Karen Davis will host the second annual digital arts workshop with the Cincinnati Arts and Technology Center (CATC). CPS students learn about the Harlem Renaissance period in a UC computer lab, take their own digital images while touring UC's campus, and create an original digital artwork using Photoshop at the CATC digital studio. A gallery exhibit will be held for student art work in TUC on June 6th.
Karen Davis participated in an invitation-only workshop at the Dagstuhl Computer Science Research Center in Germany on the evolution of conceptual modeling, April 2008.
Punit Boolchand presented an invited talk at ISNOG XVI, Montpellier, France, April 20-25, 2008. http://www.isnog.org/ISNOG2008%20-%20Invited%20speakers.htm, "Self-organization and intermediate phases in chalcogenide glasses : the case of group V sulfides and selenides".
Punit Boolchand is writing a review article on "Nature of Glasses" that will appear in a book on "Phase Change Materials" Edited by Professor Matthias Wuttig and Dr Simone Raoux. The book will soon be published by Springer.
Andrew Steckl and recent Ph.D. graduate Steve Allen, recently published a major breakthrough in optical extraction efficiency of white LEDs for lighting "A nearly ideal phosphor-converted white light-emitting diode." APPLIED PHYSICS LETTERS 92, 143309 2008.
Jason Heikenfeld and Andrew Steckl recently learned that one of their recent U.S. Patent applications will be granted "LIGHT EMISSIVE SIGNAGE DEVICES BASED ON LIGHTWAVE COUPLING".
Jason Heikenfeld has been asked to present invited talks for his electrofluidic e-paper and his electrowetting optics technology at two major international displays/optics conferences: IDMC/IMID (Seoul Korea), and IEEE LEOS (San Diego), both conferences in fall of 2008.
